At last! Construction Begins

After months of anticipation, the RAC Addition and Renovation project has begun. As the Project Shepherd, I have been involved with this project since 2009 in all phases leading to selection of the architectural firm, through all design phases and finally to the letting of bids and actual construction.  In this blog, I will provide updates on all construction phases of the project on a weekly basis or more often as the need arises.

My first post is to confirm that construction has begun even before the end of the academic year with the installation of the access road connecting Ring Road and Park Drive to the north end of Varsity Drive behind Steele Hall. This road will be the route to RAC for the duration of the construction project. Actual site work at the building site will begin on May 19 following Commencement.

The addition to the SUNY Fredonia Rockefeller Arts Center (RAC) will accommodate new academic spaces for the Department of Visual Arts and New Media and the Department of Theatre and Dance. Teaching, production, and public spaces will occupy the first and second floors of the three-story building. Renovations in the existing RAC will complete the project by August 2016.
